Nvidia gets off to a good start, as the nForce i SLI leads the field in our memory bandwidth and latency tests. These access latency results are from our two-DIMM system configurations. With the exception of the SLI, the nForce chipsets fare particularly well with smaller step sizes. Despite its superior memory subsystem performance, the i SLI lags a little in Sphinx. WorldBench overall performance WorldBench uses scripting to step through a series of tasks in common Windows applications.

Note that the Intel chipsets have relatively slow write speeds when compared to the nForce family. Our Firewire transfer speed tests were conducted with the same external enclosure and hard drive as our USB transfer speed tests. Nvidia and other chipset manufacturers have essentially handed off responsibility for 3D audio to codec manufacturers who perform positional audio calculations in their drivers.

Analog Devices and Realtek currently dominate the codec scene, and 3D audio performance lines up along those lines. This renders some games, such as Battlefield 2, unplayable with EAX effects enabled. We used an M-Audio Revolution 7. Analog output ports were used on all systems. At that speed, our E was clocked at 3. Despite the fact that a MHz front-side bus is pretty exceptional for a Core 2 Duo motherboard, Nvidia suggested that higher speeds were possible, and sent us a second board for testing. With our second i board, we were able to push the front-side bus all the way up to MHz. It was perfectly stable at that speed cranking Prime95 and the rthdribl HDR lighting demo, too. Not content to limit our overclocking escapades to the front-side bus, we turned our attention to the memory.

I look at them i guess to see where they improved some things i guess, but i never really look closely or think much of it. And crap for PCIe expansion cards to go in them.
