I don't know yet what other things it has blocked, but it hasn't blocked anything critical yet. Can anyone offer any solutions? Hopefully something that doesn't involve reformatting the unit. Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. Some malicious software knows that if you have an issue with your system, the first place most people look for some help is to go to Google to get assistance and help to get rid of it. The malicious software does not want you to remove it - it would be happiest if it makes you think that you need to use a Restore Point, a Repair Install or just reinstall your XP from scratch.

Therefore, the malicious software will block your efforts to get to Google and other sites where you might find help. It sounds like you have tried a lot of things that are not working so I would make an effort to be sure your system is not infected, and then fix the problem. After the scans run clean, then it should not be too hard to figure out why you can't get to Google.

Perform some scans for malicious software, then fix any remaining issues:. In reply to LemP's post on March 10, It was able to remove all viruses, and apparently, this issue was caused by the damage from one of the viruses.

I have done other research on the issue with my Windows 7 laptop, which does have access to Google, and I found a help thread from somebody else with this issue.

At the bottom, somebody stated that they found out that the issue was caused by a virus that changed the IP address inside the HOSTS file, and when they restored the file to it's defaults, it then worked. I did that, and it worked.

As it turns out, the virus that caused the problem on my PC was the "Mytob Worm" virus. Anyways, thank you for your reply to try and help me. This happened to me. I couldn't reach google or gmail on any browser. I would get an error like "DNS not found" all google services - gmail, google search, verification boxes - were failing on all browsers.

I could ping google.
